What does the law allow?
Anyone who passed their driving test after 1st Jjanuary 1997 is required to
take a furhter test to drive each of the following categories.
1] B+E minimum age 17 B class vehicle with large trailer where the MAM of
the combination is more the 3500kg.
2] C1 minimum age 18 lorries between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer up to
750kg.
3] C1+E minimum age 21 lorries between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer over
750kg total weight not more than 1200kg.
4] C minimum age 21 vehicles over 3500kg [rigid] with a trailer up to 750kg.
5] C+E minimum age 21 vehicles over 3500kg with a trailer over 750kg
[articulated lorry].
All but the B+E test also require a theory and medical test to be passed.
Pre 1997 licence holder can drive vehices with up to 16 seats and trucks up
to 7500kg as well as tow large trailer with a car.
